1. About CancerSisters
CancerSisters ("the Platform," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by CancerSisters Inc., a Florida nonprofit corporation pursuing 501(c)(3) status. Our mission is to promote wellness, connection, and emotional support for patients, survivors, caregivers, and families impacted by cancer.
CancerSisters is a peer support community — not a medical, clinical, or legal service. Nothing on this Platform constitutes professional medical, legal, financial, psychological, or other licensed professional advice. We are not doctors, nurses, therapists, attorneys, or licensed counselors. Always consult qualified professionals before making any health, legal, or financial decisions.
2. Agreement to These Terms
By accessing or using CancerSisters, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and all policies incorporated herein. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
3. Eligibility and Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account or use CancerSisters. By registering, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement.
If we learn that a user is under 13, we will immediately terminate that account and delete associated data. Users between 13 and 18 must have parental or guardian consent.
4. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
You may not create an account on behalf of another person without their explicit consent, or use an account to impersonate another person or entity.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use CancerSisters in a manner consistent with its mission of compassion, support, and wellness. You must not:
- Post content that is harassing, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or hateful
- Use racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory language or imagery
- Promote, glorify, or encourage self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or substance abuse
- Share content that exploits or endangers minors
- Present yourself as a licensed medical, legal, or financial professional when you are not
- Spread dangerous medical misinformation or discourage members from seeking professional care
- Post spam, unsolicited advertisements, or promotional content
- Attempt to collect other members' personal information without consent
- Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or disrupt the Platform
6. Medical and Professional Disclaimer
CancerSisters is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice.
All content on the Platform — including posts, comments, replies, journal entries, and resources — is shared by community members or staff for general informational and support purposes only. The Platform does not endorse, verify, or guarantee the accuracy of any content posted by members.
By using this Platform, you expressly acknowledge and agree that:
- You will not make any medical, health, legal, or financial decision based solely on content found on CancerSisters
- You will consult with a licensed physician, attorney, or other qualified professional before taking any action related to your health, treatment, legal rights, or finances
- CancerSisters, its staff, volunteers, and members are not responsible for any outcome resulting from your use of or reliance on content found on this Platform
7. User-Generated Content
Members may post content including text, images, and links ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content, but by posting it you grant CancerSisters a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, and reproduce it in connection with operating the Platform.
You represent that you own or have the right to post all User Content and that it does not violate any third-party rights.
CancerSisters does not endorse User Content and is not responsible for its accuracy, legality, or appropriateness. We are a platform, not a publisher. However, we reserve the right to remove any content at our sole discretion.
8. Enforcement and Account Termination
We take the safety and wellbeing of our community seriously. We reserve the right to, at any time and without prior notice:
- Remove or edit any User Content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines
- Temporarily suspend or permanently ban any account
- Delete an account and all associated content
- Report activity to law enforcement when required or appropriate
Grounds for immediate termination include but are not limited to: hate speech, harassment, threats, self-harm promotion, predatory behavior, impersonation, or any other conduct that endangers or harms members or others.
Account termination decisions are final. We are not obligated to provide a reason for termination.
9. Privacy
Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using CancerSisters, you consent to the collection and use of your data as described therein.
10. Intellectual Property
All Platform content, design, code, branding, and non-user materials are the property of CancerSisters Inc. or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written consent.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CancerSisters, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform, including any reliance on content posted by users.
Our total liability to you for any arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you have paid us in the past 12 months.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CancerSisters and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Platform, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Florida.
